The holiday season brings joy, tradition, and time with loved ones—but it can also bring added stress. Shopping, planning gatherings, traveling, and juggling busy schedules can leave many of us feeling drained instead of refreshed. One of the best ways to combat that stress is simple: move your body, sweat a little, and give yourself a chance to reset.


Why Sweat Helps with Stress


Exercise is a natural stress reliever. Moving your body releases endorphins—chemicals that boost your mood, ease anxiety, and leave you feeling more energized. Sweating also supports your body’s natural detox process and can create a sense of lightness and renewal. Even a short workout can calm a racing mind, improve focus, and help restore balance when the season feels overwhelming.


Ways to Move During the Holidays


You don’t need hours of free time to benefit from exercise—just 20–30 minutes a few times a week can make a big difference. Try mixing up activities to keep things fun and manageable:

• Group activities: High-energy classes like cycling or bootcamp can help you release stress, while yoga or Pilates encourage mindfulness and calm.

• Playful movement: Shoot hoops, play a quick game of pickleball, or enjoy other recreational activities that blend exercise with fun.

• Water workouts: Swimming laps, joining a water fitness class, or simply moving in the pool offers a refreshing, low-impact option.

• Strength and cardio: Lifting weights, walking, or hopping on a treadmill can help you build consistency and routine.


Don’t Forget About Community


Sometimes the best stress relief comes from connection. Being around supportive people—whether it’s friends, family, or familiar faces in your favorite class—reminds us that we’re not alone during busy times. Sharing space, encouragement, and laughter can be just as important as the movement itself.

The holidays often center on giving to others, but taking care of yourself is essential, too. When you carve out time to sweat, breathe, and recharge, you’re not just reducing stress—you’re building resilience, energy, and joy for the moments that matter most.

Instead of setting overwhelming goals, consider choosing one or two realistic habits—like taking three fitness classes a week, walking more often, or trying a new activity you’ve always been curious about.
