Reflexology is based on the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands that correspond to all the glands, organs, and parts of the body. It is a unique method of stimulating nerve endings using the thumb and fingers. It helps to promote relaxation, reduce depression, improve circulation, stimulate vital organs, and encourage the body’s natural healing processes.
When pressure is applied to the reflexes and pressure points in the feet, congestion is broken up. As a result, reflexology can restore nerve circulation to the affected areas, relieving the condition and returning the body to its natural state. This treatment assists in the elimination of harmful toxins from the body, while stimulating the production of natural chemicals in the brain.
Reflexology for Lymphatic Drainage
The reflexology point for lymphatic drainage is located on the top of each foot. It is found in the webbing of the big toe and the second toe and extends all the way down to the bottom of the foot. Use the knuckle of your index finger to massage the bottom of the foot in a downward direction only (from the base of the toes towards the heel of the foot). This follows the proper flow of lymph drainage in the body. To help with the energy flow through this area, do about 30 downward strokes per foot two times a week.
Reflexology for the Breast
The reflexology point for lymphatic drainage of the breasts isn’t a single point, it’s a large area on the top of the foot. It is a rectangle that extends from the base of your toes to slightly below your big toe knuckle. To massage this area, make a fist. Then, use all the knuckles to rub in an up and down motion.
The key is to get the right amount of pressure. If it is too hard, you can bruise the sensitive area on top of your feet, but if it’s too light, you do not get the full benefit of the massage. Don’t just skim the surface of your foot—feel into the sides of the bones of your feet, too. Massage this area for 30 to 60 seconds per foot about twice a week. Sensitive areas indicate energy blocks that may or may not have manifested in the physical body. This natural, ancient, complimentary therapy has been practiced for 5,000 thousand years.
