Book Review: Flow

Flow: the Cultural Story of Menstruation by Elissa Stein and Susan Kim, who look at the history of menstruation. For something so natural, there sure is a lot of stigma attached to the monthly visitor. They explore why we get it, what women did before the tampon and even before the pad. Flow explains it all. Did you know that in the 1920s women were encouraged to use a bleach douche to stay dainty? Along with interesting facts and history are vintage feminine care advertisements, which will surely make you scratch your head at how we accepted it then and now.
